2002 Ford Escape - A Good Year
|
As it always did, the 2002 Ford Escape came in either the 4 cylinder or V6 engine. The option of manual transmission was only offered with the 4 cylinder, but both the 4 cylinder and V6 came in either all wheel drive or 2 wheel drive. The antilock braking system was only a standard feature for the XLT, but people who were buying the XLS could choose it as an option if they preferred. With front side airbags starting to become more prevalent in new vehicles, they were available as an option for the XLT and XLS 2002 Ford Escape models. The 2002 Ford Escape XLT and XLS models had some standard features that impressed. This included all-inclusive power features for windows, locks and mirrors, a front console between the seats, and air conditioning. Of course, standard in the more elite versions there was the 6 CD changer that even included an MP3 player. Built tough and ready for any kind of road conditions, the 2002 Escape nevertheless was built with family comfort in mind, as well as driver and passenger convenience and even luxury. Though performance, power and handling were never compromised, and in fact were consistently improved upon, comfort and convenience were also given importance. One of the biggest selling points of the 2002 Ford Escape was its size and gas mileage. A smaller sized SUV was actually not very popular only a few years before; nobody really believed that they could come close to having the power that the larger SUV's had. The 2002 Escape showed people that small sized SUV's could be perfectly capable contenders. Not all of them measured up, but the Escape certainly did. Though the 2002 Escape did not come in a hybrid version, it was introduced the following year, and customers were delighted. About The Author: |
