2006 Ford Escape - A Popular Small SUV

The 2006 Ford Escape was a small SUV, but it packed a lot of power and convenience in a little package. In this year the hybrid was available, running on both electricity and gas. The regular gas-powered vehicle was still available also. The 2006 Escape carried five people comfortably, though on long trips four people was better. It was small enough to be called a wagon, although actually it was simply a small-class SUV. Though the SUV had attained a lot of popularity over the years, people began to realize that getting good gas mileage was still important. With the 2006 Ford Escape, they could still have their SUV and get good mileage too, with only a few compromises.

The 4 cylinder 2006 Ford Escape got the better gas mileage, though some customers still preferred the higher horsepower in the V6 engine. A lot of people were opting for the hybrid in order to economize on fuel. The hybrid used the 4 cylinder engine, and it was the gas engine that charged the battery, so owners never had to recharge the battery on their own. The 2006 Ford Escape hybrid was always an automatic transmission, and the car was programmed to know when to run only on gas, when to run only on battery, and when to combine the both, depending on what would provide the best fuel efficiency.

Drivers and passengers rated the 2006 Ford Escape as adequate when it came to ride quality. Suspension was satisfactory in the 4 cylinder, and a little better in the V6. It by no means felt like a luxury vehicle, although small SUV's are rarely designed to. This SUV was also rated as satisfactory when it came to handling. It did the job, and in fact got high ratings on balance through corners, though it tended to lean and jerk when cornering was too abrupt and too tight.

Drivers and passengers were pleased with the comfort of the 2006 Ford Escape. It looked small from the outside, but the inside was surprisingly roomy. There was plenty of room to stretch out the legs whether sitting in the front or sitting in the back. There were a few complaints about seat comfort; though they seemed perfectly fine for around town and short trips, for long distance travelling they could become a little uncomfortable. Not everyone thought this, though; it seemed to depend on who was doing the driving or the riding.
