3 Reasons Platform Ground Birdfeeders Rock

Everyone loves birdfeeders. They offer us the chance to get close to nature, and they decorate our lives with their simplistic beauty and elegance. A birdfeeder, however, does come in all styles, shapes, and sizes. When you decide to purchase a birdfeeder, you can be guaranteed a cornucopia of types to choose from. If you are new to birdfeeding, this may be a little daunting and confusing. Of course, that is why I am here: to take some of the guess work out of birdfeeders. One type of birdfeeder that has always been popular is the platform ground birdfeeders.

What is a platform ground birdfeeder? Well, it is a platform that you place on the ground that allows birds that like eating on the ground access to your birdseed. Many birds do not like the traditional birdfeeders, so you often lose out on that populace. However, purchasing or making platform ground birdfeeders allows you to place them on the ground or on any other flat surface such as a patio table. There are one that have a cover so that it is protected from the elements. These are often referred to as fly through platform ground birdfeeders.

1. The first reason I think platform ground birdfeeders rock is that they are so easy to create. All a platform ground birdfeeder is, is something akin to a small cookie sheet with legs. However, most of them these days have a screen over the birdseed. This allows you to properly clean the birdfeeder when necessary. Since they are so simplistic to create, they are great for weekend projects; they are perfect for creating with the kids. I find that they are great to make with kindergartners. There is nothing like seeing the masterpieces created by a group of 6 year olds.

2. The second reason I adore the platform ground birdfeeders is because it is squirrel and critter proof. As any bird lover can tell you, squirrels are a bane. However, I find that other critters such as raccoons and bears can be just as bad if not worse. These have a screen over the seed which means the birds can peck to get to the food, but the critters paws do not get through. This is a wonderful feature. I have found that they these critters are extremely intelligent though. They will try to turn it upside down. There are ways around that too.

3. The third reason I like platform ground birdfeeders is that they really withstand the test of time. These seem to be a sturdy birdfeeder. I know that a good one will last years and years without hardly any maintenance. These are extremely well made and since they are low to the ground, they do not et as much damage from the wind. The wind can really do a number on hanging birdfeeders.

Deciding to own a platform ground birdfeeder is a g
