3 Types of Spotting Scopes

Telescopes are usually used for viewing things in the sky and in space, such as stars, but spotting scopes are very similar, but they are portable, and usually used to view things that are on the earth. You can get one of these scopes in a variety of magnifications, but usually they are somewhere between 20x-60x. These portable scopes are made so you can attach them to a tripod if you need to for easier viewing and have a knob on them to help you focus in on what you are looking at. You can also get a variety of different eyepieces to go with this scope as well. These types of scopes are made to be durable and usually appear rather rugged and can take a lot. Depending on what you are doing with your spotting scope, there are three different kinds to be found.

The first type of spotting scopes is called a straight-through scope. This scope you can look straight through, just by holding it up to your eye. The eyepiece and the rest of the scope is all in a straight line. You can use these kind of scopes easily if you are driving in a car and want to look out of a window at what is around you. They are also easily passed around from person to person too. These types of scopes are usually lighter than the other two types of scopes used for spotting.

The second kind of spotting scope is called an angled scope. These scopes have an eyepiece that is on an angle to the rest of the scope. These scopes are easy to use for those who are tall, and can also make it easy for people that differ greatly in height to share the same scope. This is helpful for adults and children that are sharing the scope and are of very different heights.

The third type of spotting scopes that you may find is a scope that can be mounted on the shoulder. These types are scopes are not used very often and are more complex than the other two types of scopes. It is very rare to come across this kind of a scope.

There are also a variety of manufacturers that make spotting scopes. The best of these scopes are more pricey and are of the best quality. The manufactures that are known to have the best quality of scopes used for spotting are Swarovski, Zeiss, and Leica. Swarovski is considered to be the very best, and the other two manufacturers are very close behind in the quality of scope they make. You can find scopes that are of great quality, but that are also substantially less expensive and these can be found by manufacturers such as Nikon, and Kowa. No matter what kind of scope for spotting you may buy you should be sure that you buy it from a reputable company, and that you get great quality for your money.
