3 Ways To Make Good Use Of Wood Fired Water Heaters

Water heaters are an essential part of any home. Usually, we think of water heaters as being in a cornered off spot in our home. We never really think about that water heater until - for some unknown reason - our bath water doesnt get hot, and even sometimes, that water heater can spout out dangerous leaks of water or gas. However, more and more people are getting back to nature. Finding homemade wood fired water heaters is becoming common place to people that have decided to leave the world behind either for a small vacation, or for an extended amount of time.

Creating wood fired water heaters is not difficult. All you have to use is what nature gives you, and some imagination. Usually, the first step is to have an energy source, and a water container. These two things makes for some of the best wood fired water heaters in the world.

1. Lets start with a water container needed for wood fired water heaters. I would suggest using a drum that has been cut into half, or a drum that is sitting upright. This drum can be either reinforced metal or wood. I have found you can use anything from a coffee can, to a drum used as a burning barrel. If you live in the wilderness for any length of time, you should build up a few of these drums since they are great for washing clothes and dishes, cooking, and heating water for cleaning and bathing.

2. Next, let us talk about reusable energy. I have found that you can use anything from drift wood, unusable fire wood, garbage, or anything that will burn. I like to use old drift wood that would not be useful for anything else. I am not fond of using firewood for this purpose because it seems like a waste. I also like burning garbage. This is great for getting a hot heat, and it allows you to recycle cardboard and such.

3. Fitting it all together for wood fired water heaters is the next task. To start, you can either do it the old fashioned way, or you can get inventive. The old fashioned way is to make a holder for the water container, then you add the fuel underneath. Then, the water heats up the longer the heat is viable. I like my fashion. I must state that I found this somewhere on the Internet years ago, but I do not recall exactly where. I have a big barrel that I modified. There is a small square that I cut out at the bottom. Then, I added a sort of tray above the flames. Now, I add an additional drum into this; then I add the fuel source to the very bottom and light. This makes for a very controlled burning which everyone knows is so important.

Owning wood fired water heaters can be very rewarding, and well worth any effort you put into them. Of course, these wood fired water heaters may not be suited to every lifestyle, but there are many opportunities for using these. I like using mine while camping to clean clothes and dishes, and I like it to make a warm bath. Making these can be fun, but always worth your efforts.
