3rd Grade Science Projects can Be Fun for Parent and Child

It is important for parents to be involved with their childrens education at all levels, but particularly when the children are in elementary school. This involvement can include everything from helping a child with his or her homework, to being involved with the school as a volunteer or with the Parent and Teacher Organization. It is a well proven fact that when parents are involved the child tends to do much better in school because they have the encouragement and help they need at home. Children often need help and one example would be when children are assigned to do 3rd grade science projects.

At that level children are just being introduced to science and they will have no clue where to begin when it comes to preparing 3rd grade science projects. This is where parents can be a great help. The first thing parents should do when assisting children on 3rd grade science projects is to look at the science textbook the child is using. This will give them an example of the areas of science being covered in school and an idea of what projects might be appropriate for that particular level. There are times when the children are given suggestions by the teacher and other times when they may want to do something different.

Parents can help students decide on the right 3rd grade science projects by doing some research on the Internet to find projects appropriate for the 3rd grade. With a little effort they can also usually find descriptions about how the project can be effectively done. However, it is very important that the child pick the science project they would like to do with parent only acting as an advisor. This helps the child understand that it will necessary throughout life to make decisions and will also help build self confidence.

When children decide which 3rd grade science projects they want to do they will often ask their parents for help. This is a good chance for the parents to get involved with their children but they should be encouraged to do most of the work on the projects themselves. Again a parent should primarily be an advisor in this situation and under no circumstances should the parent do the project for the child. This will definitely send out the wrong message. However, when parents work hand in hand with a child on school work it can only be a positive experience for both of them.
