4D Prenatal Ultrasound Imaging
|
It does everything that the 2D and 3D ultrasounds do such as determining the age of your baby, detecting uterine problems, and discovering multiple pregnancies. It can also spot problems with the placenta, abnormal bleeding, ectopic pregnancy, and detect fetus abnormalities. As well it is often used for other gynecological problems such as finding ovarian tumors and fibroids. Now there's really nothing new on that list as the 2D and 3D machines can perform all of those functions as well. So what makes the 4D machine the talk of the hospital? Well it's exciting for both doctor and mother. The live images mean certain conditions and abnormalities are much more likely to be spotted. And for you to see your baby actually kicking and moving well there's nothing quite as thrilling. It really is different from viewing the 2D or 3D scans. In fact studies have shown that there is a much deeper bond with baby with moms that have a 4D scan. These moms are more likely to exercise properly, eat right, stop smoking, and take better care of themselves all the way around. And even dad's that have seen the 4D images report feeling a closer bond. A 4D means motion and it's often fondly referred to as a live 3D. A 3D actually uses the same machine as the 2D but it adds one dimension. The 3D is useful for picking up some conditions that the 2D is unable to identify such as cleft lip. From the 24th week on the 4D scan is used because earlier than that the fetus isn't developed enough to gain any real benefit. Weeks 27 to 34 show the best views because the baby still has enough room to be moving around freely and it has not yet moved into the birthing canal. The moving is important because that's what the 4D scan is really about and of course that's when it is most impressive. There's nothing like seeing the facial movement of your baby or watching them curl their fingers or toes. It will bring you to tears of joy! Images are generally nice a clear but there are things that do affect the quality of the scanned image.1. Facilities - The skill of the technician and the quality of the equipment will both affect the clarity of the scan.2. Baby Position - the position baby is in when the scan is taken will affect what you see.3. Placenta - Where the placenta rests is out of anyone's control and it can occasionally block baby's face so the best thing is try again later.4. Amniotic Fluid - the amount of fluid in the uterus will affect the clarity of the pictures. The more fluid the better the images will be. This noninvasive technology is one of the safest around and it is an important tool in monitoring your health and the health of your baby. And it's a tool used by almost all medical professionals. The 4D prenatal ultrasound imaging gives you the added bonus of seeing your baby in motion and you won't ever forget that first special moment!
