5 Favorite Urban Legends and Myths
|
Our history is filled with myths and legends some dating back over a thousand years. Story tellers of the past have spun wonderful tales about King Author, Robin Hood, and of course hundreds of others that continue to service generation after generation. Today we create what are referred to as urban legends. Here are 5 favorite urban legends of myths. 1. Alligators In The Sewer - Parents returning home from Florida vacations use to bring back baby alligators for their kids to raise as pets. New Yorkers were especially prone to doing this. Once the baby alligator grew up they were no longer cute so to get rid of them New Yorkers would flush them down the toilet. Some of these gators survived in the sewer system and began to breed, now the street under Manhattan are filled with full grown alligators that are albino’s and blind. 2. Backseat Driver - A girl traveling to visit a friend had to stop to get gas. As she was returning to her car the gas attendant started yelling to her that she hadn’t paid. She went back to argue that she already had paid but all he really wanted to do was warn her someone had crawled into the backseat of her car and that he had called the police. 3. The Vanishing Hiker - Late one Saturday night a man was driving home from the golf club when out of the corner of his eye appeared a beautiful young girl dressed in a sheer evening gown beckoning for a ride. He slammed on his brakes and indicated to her to climb in the back seat of his car. He asked her what she was doing out alone so late at night. The girl in her soft shrill voice claimed her story to long to tell and begged for the man to take her home claiming her car had broken down a few miles back. She said she lived just up the road 5 miles. The man drove to her house pulling up in front to let her out. When he looked in the backseat she was no where to be found. Confused the man knocked on the door which was answered by an old man. He began to explain about the young girl and her disappearances. The old man nodded claiming this had been happening every Saturday night and that is was the ghost of his daughter who had been killed in a car accident year’s ago. 4. Leave The Lights Off - Two complete opposites landed up being room mates at college. One liked to study, the other to party. So when mid terms approached Jane planned a Friday night of studying while Mary planned to attend a frat party. They were close friends even with their differences. Mary got ready for the party and tried to persuade Jane to go. Jane on the other hand tried to convince Mary to stay and study. Mary left for the party and Jane agreed to leave the door unlocked so Mary wouldn’t have to take her keys. At the party Mary met another group of friends that wanted her to spend the night so Mary said sure but she had to go home and get her keys. At around 2 am Mary returned to her home, snuck in, and grabbed her keys, not turning on the light because she didn’t want to wake Jane. The next morning Mary walked home to get help from Jane with her studies. When she reached her room and opened the door she found Jane murdered at her desk. Scrawled on the wall in blood read “Aren’t you glad you didn’t turn the lights on?” 5. Bride and Seek - During a wedding reception the couple and guest played a drunken game of hide and seek. The groom was it and found all but the bride. He searched on in frustration never finding her. Finally furious he began to believe she had changed her mind about the wedding and left. He returned home never finding her, nor hearing from her again. A couple of years later a cleaning lady decided to have a look inside an old trunk in the attic of the reception building. There she found the rotted body of the young bride with a scream still frozen on her face. The centuries old legends and myths are wonderful but the new urban legends and myths add an interesting twist to story telling. These 5 favorites are just a touch of the thousands of urban legends to be found. About The Author: Aura Mirchandani is the Editor and Publisher of Article Click.
