6 Easy Solutions To Control Severe Acne Right Now

Shared wisdom is sometimes the place to start when searching for acne treatment solutions. It is sort of like 'ask the audience' on a game show. The Internet is one such audience pool where we can find shared wisdom when it comes to treating severe acne naturally or by medical means.

If treating your severe acne by natural means is what you hope to find, here is some of that shared wisdom that works.

1. Clean Water May Be The Simplest Treatment.

The reason water is such an effective treatment for acne is because of what it contains. Pure, or treated water, contains approximately a pH alkaline level of 7. The alkaline is very effective in cleansing the body of many of the natural and environmental causes of acne-producing oils and bacteria.

We have all heard we should be drinking up to 8 glasses of water each day. That has proven to be true but, for severe acne, you might want to consider drinking as many as 10 glasses a day. This seems like a lot but, when you consider the benefits, it is the one thing that is nearly free of cost and can help clear your skin.

Our bodies are mostly water so it makes sense to keep it well hydrated for it to run efficiently. Water helps the body shed oils, grime, naturally ocurring compounds, and dead skin cells. It helps to hydrate your skin and clean your skin pores. Clogged skin pores is one of the chief reasons for acne.

Water also makes us feel good. It helps hydrate our nerve system which, in turn, helps us feel energized and better able to handle the stress of daily life. Stress, by the way, produces toxins in the body that contribute to acne and water cleans them out quickly when we drink enough on a daily basis. We are more relaxed and sleep more soundly.

Do not think that drinking coffee, soda, tea and alcohol are substitutes for drinking enough water. This is a common misconception. Such drinks only add more compounds that the body must process. They act like diuretics or water pills and only cause the body to shed vital water while leaving behind harmful sugars, for example. More about this in a minute.

2. The Positive and Negative Sides of Astringents

Astringents can be a good thing for your skin if they are all-natural. They can be a bad thing if they are in products that contain soap compounds, alcohol, or so-called oatmeal based products. Any astringent that clogs the pores is bad for severe acne.

The only astringent that works for many people is from the Witch Hazel plant when it is made at home by steaming the plant branches. The steaming leaves a liquid astringent that is free of manufacturing additives which can clog skin pores and exacerbate the problem. The last thing you want is to close up your pores and give acne-bacteria a place to grow!

3. These Are Not Good Things.

Treating yourself to coffees, teas, cigarettes, and sugar compounds from candy, gum, even diet sodas will give bacteria the fuel it needs to propagate. It is a fact that any stimulants have the potential of adding the wrong things to our bodily organs and systems that contribute to pimples, blackheads and other zits. And, remember, stimulants are artificial boosters and cause a certain amount of tension or stress on the body. We think we are getting an energy boost when, in fact, we are forcing the body to combat the compounds these things leave behind.

4. Acne In Your Diet.

You may be surprised that our body has a defense mechanism that produces white blood cells that can actually contribute to acne forming. What we eat determines the production of white blood cells and how hard these cells must work to process what we eat. When you load your body with fats and sugars, not all of it gets processed and the junk left behind gives food to acne-causing-bacteria.

You are what you eat, so they say, and your acne may be the result of what you eat!

5. That Bud Might Not Be For You!

It is relaxing to have that drink or two, right? It sure seems that way but you will be surprised to know that drinking alcohol actually contributes to clogged pores which contribute to acne. There are several clinical studies to back this claim and they make sense.

Alcohol is actually an astringent and has the same effect as those over-the-counter astringents mentioned earlier. Astringents close skin pores and we know that closed skin pores can lead to acne. You may not realize that drinking alcohol close to bedtime actually creates tension that makes it more difficult to get good bed rest. When you are tired during your waking hours because of lack of a good sleep, you are stressed and you give acne another opportunity to grow.

6. Be It Hot Or Be It Cold,

Very hot water opens the pores too much while very cold water closes them. Either extreme should be avoided. When you wash, shower, or take a bath, the water should be comfortable and close to your natural body temperature. This is especially important if you have severe acne. The less trauma you cause your skin pores, the better. Very warm water for bathing is good while luke warm for washing your face is recommended.
