8 Things to Consider Before Buying An Office Chair

Buying a chair has become a pretty complicated business. With all the ergonomic features, it's hard to tell what's hype and what's fact. If you are in the market for a new chair, you'll want to read on. Here are 8 things to consider before buying an office chair. 1. How does it rate

These days with the internet so readily available we can quickly find plenty of information about a product. Do your research: find out how long the chair has been on the market, what type of ergonomic rating it has, are there any complaints, how long has the company been making chairs. Get a feel for the manufacturer - good or bad.

2. WarrantyWhat type of warranty does the chair have. Does it cover parts, material, and labor. Where do you take the chair if you have problems. The warranty might not be so important on a low end chair but when your spending good money to purchase an office chair you won't to be sure they back their product. If the warranty is poor or for a short period of time like 6 months you can pretty much figure out what the quality of the chair is and how long they expect it to last.

3. PricingMore doesn't always mean better although it can be an indication of the quality. With the advent of online shopping came some great savings for the consumer. Many warehouse style companies can offer their office chairs for a considerable savings because they don't have all the overhead of the big box stores. Take some time to price shop and compare, but be sure you are always comparing apples to apples. Sneaky wording on ads can leave you coming up short. It's best to compare actual features.

4. AvailabilityHow available is the chair in your area. Will you have to wait months because it is on backorder. If it's a chair that's not stocked is this because it's not popular or because it's so popular they can't get enough of them. Dig around and find out. It might give you some good information as to whether you want to wait for this chair to become available.

5. DurabilityCheck the construction of the chair. See how it's put together and check the quality of the workmanship. Does it look well built, is it sturdy and held together with the correct number of nuts and bolts, are the casters heavy duty and nice and solid. Does the padding on the seat appear thick and firm. The construction of the chair will tell you a lot about the quality and how long you can expect it to last. Yes, even some higher priced chairs are known for shoddy workmanship, but no names mentioned here, you'll have to do your own research.

6. AdjustabilityDoes the chair have adequate adjustments. Can it move up and down, if so how far, is the adjustment amount adequate. Does the seat adjust can it be tilted or positioned for comfort. Are the adjustments easily made or are the levers hard to use and awkwardly placed. Try all adjustment levers to make sure they meet your requirements.

7. Lumbar SupportDoes the chair have lumbar support for your back. Does it support the natural s curve of the spine, is it adjustable. Does it fit right against your back and does it feel comfortable. Can the back of your chair tilt backwards and does the chair move naturally with your movements.

8. Padding and cushioningThe quality of the padding or cushioning can be a little more difficult to judge. Read the label attached to the change, find out what type padding makes up your chair. If it is foam padding what is the density of the foam. There are some very good form foams now available that mold to the body. They are considered smart foams and they are certainly worth checking out.

By following these 8 steps before buying, you will be the proud owner of a quality office chair that meets your personal needs.
