A Roof Leak: Who Done It
|
Locating that roof leak is not a problem when it is raining. However, locating the leak may not by so simplistic when it is sunny out. The amusing thing is that you can not actually fix the leaky roof in the rain. Depending on the type of roof you have, the leak can be just about any place. Somehow, water has gotten underneath or through your roofing material and has soaked through the actual wooden roof. Sometimes, a gasket or nut may be loose and may be letting in some extra precipitation. The first thing you want to do if your roof has sprung a leak is actually to get a visual at the top of your roof. What you are looking for may not be so obvious. Just because a water spot is at point A, the water may be actually seeping through at point B on the other side of the roof. Roof leaks are funny that way. They like to wiggle and crawl along under the roofing material until it finds a weak spot and burrow its way through slowly. Another popular leaky place is around such things as nuts and bolts or gaskets on the roof. Check around that satellite dish mount; antenna; other attachment places. Of course, there are many useful ways to find that pesky leak. Is you find yourself having difficulty - or like me are afraid of heights - get yourself a professional roofer person. The signs of a leaky roof may not always be as simplistic as the tinkling of pats and pans as they catch the water during a rainstorm. Sometimes, the leak will run along the interior of the walls themselves. All you may notice is mold, or wet walls. I want to mention that if you ever have any mold on any walls: be careful. Some molds can cause illness, cancer, and even death. Never take a roof leak for granted. It can come back to haunt you later. If you are not sure how to handle that pesky leak, seek professional advice. About The Author: Alphonso has been working in the home remodeling industry for last 5 years.
