A Scope For 45 Colt Rifle - Can You Talk The Talk?
|
You need to buy a good scope to ensure that you get the accuracy you'll come to rely on. After all sighting errors mean you are going to miss your target. No one scope can do all the jobs but by understanding some of the terms you can better understand which scope is best for your needs. What powder do you need? The first number is the magnification power so an 8 would magnify things eight times or a 4 would magnify things four times. Now your instinct might be to choose the highest magnification possible but that's not necessarily the right answer. You see the higher the magnification is the less you will see in the scope so if your scope is too powerful you might see the bug in the tree but you won't see the leaf the bugs on. High magnifications also use up light so the higher the magnification the darker the image will be. So an 8 will be much darker than a 4 image. You need to choose a magnification of between 4 and 6 for hunting and regular shooting. Choose between a 9 and 12 for long distance shooting. And choose a 20 for target practice where the target isn't moving. If you get a large objective lens it can create mounting grief because the scope rings are going to have to be higher to so that the scope clears your rifle. Is a variable power option for you?The variable power option is worth considering. Many scopes already have this option so rather than 8 x 30 you might see 8 - 12 x 30 which means magnification varies from eight to twelve. The ring that you see on the back of a variable power scope is where you select your setting so it's very simple to adjust on the fly. There is no question that variable scopes are very popular because of the wide range of magnification they offer.Which reticles will it be? Reticles or crosshairs usually have one horizontal line and one vertical line made from thin metal wires or etched right into the glass. The crosshairs are found inside a tube which has adjustment knobs. The object is to center your target in the crosshairs. There are several types of reticles but only a couple are popular. The plain reticle is the most popular because of its simplicity. You've got two choices - how thick or thin you want the lines. A duplex reticle has thicker lines and is a better option for hunting and general shooting. It is actually the most popular of all the reticles. The thick sections are easier to see and provide a very precise aim point. Whether it is a scope for 45 colt rifle or any other rifle knowing the basics will make it easier for you to find the right scope.
