Acne During Pregnancy - Tips for Treatment
|
Some Topical Medications are Okay You don't have to continue to live with acne during pregnancy, there are some topical medications that are okay for you to use. Usually you'll be able to use simple over the counter topical medications that have benzoyl peroxide in them or products with azelaic acid. However, if you are not sure, you may want to talk to your doctor. They can give you an idea of what over the counter options are your best choice and the ones that you should probably avoid for the sake of your baby. Avoid Oral Medications While there are oral medications available to treat acne problems, when you are dealing with acne during pregnancy, you will want to avoid them. These medications can be dangerous to your baby. Studies have shown that they can be very harmful to a fetus, so even though you want to get rid of that acne badly, don't take any oral medications for treating acne. Herbal Remedies - Are They Safe? No doubt you have heard of many different herbal remedies out there for acne. However, when it comes to dealing with acne during pregnancy, you'll want to be very careful. Just because it calls itself an "herbal" remedy does not mean that it is a safe one for you while you are pregnant. Some of the herbal options out there are quite powerful and can contain a variety of different herbs in them. You are best to discuss these remedies with your doctor before you start taking one. The last thing you want to do is accidentally take something that could cause you or your baby a problem. Good Skin Care Can Help Of course treating acne during pregnancy isn't all about using medications. Good skin care while you are pregnant can definitely be a huge help to you. Using a gentle cleanser every day can help, although you need to avoid scrubbing on your skin, which can make things even worse.
