So, what is a Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle?

Normally designated by "PHEVs," these cars are common hybrid vehicles but with one great feature: they work with batteries that are rechargeable just by connecting a plug to any electrical power source!

Most of the PHEVS comes with a secondary gas tank backup. What does it sound to you? This type of car brings great benefits, both ecological and economic, here are some of them:

They are cleaner. Unlike fuel cars, these get cleaner as they get older! According to many studies, wheel-to-wheel emissions are much lower than normal fuel cars. Also, they can also work with bio-diesel and other bio-fuels.

They are cheaper to run. Well, I think this is the most important for everyone! That's it. PHEVs are cheaper and much easier to maintain. We can say that you can fill your "battery-tank" for less than $1.00 per gallon, why? Because the normal U.S. rate is $4.00 per gallon. They will be charged at night so you can use them all the day with no problems. Hybrid cars cost more 10%-20% than conventional cars (due to battery costs), but it definitely worth (from run costs to time and subsidies)!

They already exist. Gas station are prepared to supply this new type of car and, as they become more and more popular, you can get all the technical support as your normal old car. Hybrid cars are now becoming being produced globally. A new era has just begun!

Same performance. The use of this new source of energy will not affect the performance of the car! They can reach 60 Mph in nine seconds, even with low batteries!

There is a strong potential market for hybrid cars, according to customer surveys realized all around the world. They will grow as people become familiar with them and technology points to them on the magazines more times. Most of the people said they would prefer to charge their car at home instead moving to a near gas station. According to a study, people would prefer this type of car due to two main reasons: gas price and reduction of emissions to the atmosphere. Before too much longer people will not be able to drive a gas power car, they will not have the funds to afford the gas. Gas companies are making a wealthy living at this day and time, so buy purchasing a Hybrid you can just simply plug up. Everyone can car pool with a Hybrid and make the world's air quality a little bit better to inhale.

Here is what some car-makers are planning:

Visionary Vehicles: "Plans to bring a series PHEV to market in 2010."

Fisker:" Taking deposits for small production runs in 2009 and 2010."

Chrysler: "Chrysler launching electric vehicle division. Renegade/Zeo/Eco-Voyager concept cars"

Finally, an interesting detail: "Senator Barack Obama delivered a speech on February 28, 2006 calling for every government car to be a PHEV" - Remarks of Senator Barack Obama, Governor's Ethanol Coalition, Washington, D.C.
