Against Abortion: The Main Arguments

Abortion is still a matter of debate, so let's see what people against abortion have to say.

As a definition, abortion is the procedure through which the baby developing in a mother's uterus is taken out, being killed in the process. Many consider this medical procedure to be a criminal act, that should be convicted, and the moral issues surrounding the controversial subject are not to be taken lightly. Those being against abortion built their argumentation on a set of reasons that we are about to find out.

In the argumentation, issues such as life and death are brought forward. The child in the mother's womb is a live creature, that was created by God's will. By killing it, man assumes the role of being the one to decide who lives and who dies, which means that he tries to act as God. Many religion consider abortion as a crime and punishment was deserved for such acts. In large families, many children were considered to be a gift made by God to them and they did not see abortion as a justifiable act.

Religious reasoning continues through the arguments related to providence. If a child is developing in a mother's womb, then God intended to do so, and providence should not be stopped in its way. The child has to be born and live his or her life, or, otherwise, providence has been desecrated. These are all religious arguments, and many people living today may find them a little bit far fetched, as scientific reasons and atheism say the other thing around.

Even if we leave the religious arguments aside, abortion has effects on the mind and feelings of those that are involved. First, the woman that was about to give birth to that child will never be the same after the abortion takes place. Not only her, but the entire family will feel the loss of the child and their emotional lives will be affected forever. You can alleviate the physical pain of abortion, as medicine today knows how to apply anesthesia to the body, but the soul will not be cured so easily.

Physically speaking, an abortion may be the cause of many complications for the woman that suffers the procedure. Here are some of the problems that may occur after an abortion: the fallopian tubes may block, the cervix will become weakened, the uterus will be scatted and, if the damage to the reproductive system is big enough, the woman may not be able to give birth again.

Other abortion problems may appear, as well, such as miscarriage, still birth, premature birth, hysterectomy, or an increase in tubal babies.

Some types of cancer are related to abortion. A woman that experienced more or one abortion can develop a higher risk of breast cancer, uterine cancer, or cervical cancer. Because most part of the abortions carried in America are made illegally, the medical assistance provided is rather scarce, which leaves the women suffering the abortions with little chances of getting out of this with no problems whatsoever. The lack of hygiene, or other factors may contribute to the appearance of infections and other complications, threatening the life and health of the woman.

Abortion is not just a moral issue, it is a medical issue, it is a health issue and an emotional issue, as well. Before an abortion, any family should take the time to think about what is to be done, and if this act is really what they need to do.
