All about First Dishwashers
|
The first dishwashers were somewhat different from the contemporary ones, as they were made of wood and had a hand-turned wheel. The role of the hand-turned wheel was to splash water on dishes and even if the method was not so efficient, the idea was great. The rudimentary techniques and almost primitive method of splashing water on dishes was not a failure, but more a matter of a glorious start on the road of the dishwasher history. A more practical model of a dishwasher appeared in 1886 due to a woman Josephine Cochran, although it was not so successful. The idea was welcomed by hotels and restaurants, but not by the general public. It was still hand-operated mechanical machine and this might have contributed to the slow appearance of success. Therefore, it was developed later when electricity began to play important roles in the lives of the people in the beginning of the 20th century. The appearance in 1912 of the first dishwashers based on electricity was another important step. Unfortunately, it took almost two more decades in order to introduce a practical dishwasher and it was only in 1930 when the first dishwashers were actually used. Even if their fame and success comes hand in hand with affordability and dimensions, 1930 may be considered the important moment in the dishwasher history. Some improvements were added in 1940, consisting in electric drying elements. Although only more wealthy people might have afforded the new useful invention, the success in the number of more simple people is almost ensured in the 1950s. This is the period when the dimensions and the prices of the dishwashers are more attractive for the general public. More and more people consider the possibility of making their lives easier with the help of this wonderful machine. The importance of the period 1950s cannot be denied, as only then dishwashers started appearing in homes and serving kitchens. Dishwashers became common in homes with the 1970 due to the continuous changes that were welcomed by the simple housewives and by the great hotels and restaurants. The success of the dishwashers is uncontestable nowadays and almost every kitchen has this helpful machine.
