Anthony Robbins' Divorce

A very important event in Anthony Robbins' life occurred when he met John Grinder, one of the founders of NLP (Nero Linguistic Programming). This happened when the tall man was in his late teens and he began studying NLP. Tony was stubborn and he managed to make John Grinder accept him and teach him about NLP. One important contribution was his method, developed in the same period, called the diamond method which served the purpose of helping people suffering from fears and phobias. His achievements brought him a lot of money when he was still very young. The national press called him “Wonder Kid", but that did not help him overcome the problems that came with his financial success. He became overweight and uninterested about anything in life, heading on a road of self destruction. A friend was the one that helped him out of this dangerous state of mind. Tony says that his friend showed him how he was wasting his life away. While he had talent and the means to make things happen, he simply did not demand more from himself. That was the moment when he decided to head on with his life. Tony launched himself on a radio show in Canada, where he declared that he could heal someone that was suffering from a phobia. His challenge was taken up by a physiologist that had a patient that was afraid of snakes. Years of treatment had been useless for the woman. The confrontation between Tony and the physiologist took place at a local hotel and it gathered a large audience. He surely amazed everybody when, by using his skills learnt with NLP and a little bit of entertainment, he made the woman to be quite relaxed with having snakes around her. From this point, Tony climbed the ladder of a superstar. He became famous and incredibly rich in just one year. In his lavish house built above the cliffs of California, he wrote books that became bestsellers over night and he recorded motivational tapes that were sold around the globe. His tapes were considered to be the best motivational tapes ever made by anyone. His friends and supporters were also rich and famous people. Names like Michael Douglas, Andre Agassi, Quincy Jones, and many others helped him and publicly endorsed his beliefs. He has also been associated with other famous people, like Nelson Mandella and Princess Diana. It was his moment of the highest glory, but that was also the time when he announced that he was going to divorce his wife Becky, the woman that supported him the whole time, for whom he wrote a book and that appeared on many of his tapes. This divorce had also upset his fans because it was against the things he preached through his books and tapes. He had often used his marriage as an example for others that happy relations could exist and last according to his teachings. The bad moment passed and, in the end, almost everyone agreed that Tony is just a human being and his pursue for happiness cannot be neglected. In fact, Becky is still one of his friends and she works in one of Tony's companies. All that he learnt from the divorce, Tony put in his new teachings and he talked about it in his seminars. His new wife helps him a lot and she is very active. His relentless energy is now the same, even if he is a man in his forties. He sleeps only a few hours a night, he tries to make the best of him and many times, after seminars, he still gets back to work in order to make things even better. Not everybody approves of his ways and there are voices that claim that Anthony Robbins is a fraud.
