Now that you have an account, have done some following and have some followers it’s time to contribute and meet some new people. (Note, for the first few weeks I suggest following people in your niche or interested in your niche so that you build a base of people to build relationships with.)
The whole follow people and get followed back practice, in mass, was not very appealing to me before but I now mix up the techniques that I use to get followers. We will talk more about that later. Today it is all content.
When I got started Tweeting I was only posting about things I did during the day. I would just post some of the tasks that I performed for my business that day. Maybe six to twelve posts per day. Then I started Tweeting some famous quotes. I spent Sunday night getting all of my quotes scheduled for the week. I would send out a handful of quotes a day.
I started gaining a lot more followers by Tweeting my favorite quotes than I had by tweeting quick tips or posts about my personal life. I was adding value and knew it when my followers began to grow at a rapid pace. The more valuable my Tweets the more followers I gained.
I posted quotes for a few months when I got my bearings straight and began figuring out what people wanted. Keeping that in mind, I began tweeting links of my favorite blogger’s blog posts. Once I began Tweeting links to valuable content my interaction really stepped it up a level. I have always tracked my favorite topics and all of the internet business niche keywords using Google Alerts. So I began to put Google Alerts to work.
Every morning I read through my Google Alerts and Tweeted links to my favorite blog posts and articles. I used Tweetlater to schedule the posting of all of these fantastic stories and was getting more followers than ever before.
After experiencing success by posting links to my favorite content I began posting links to my content. As my blog grew I Tweeted more of my own original content with links to my own site. And the more often I blogged the more Twitter followers I got and the more readers I acquired for my blog.
So I was testing a lot of content and began to figure out what my followers or potential followers had the most interest in. And that testing paid off. This is a great outline of what is going to work for a lot of people when comes to adding value to the Twitter community. And don't be fooled. As much as you don;t like spammy, unrelated content neither do your followers. If you are going to use Twitter as a part of your business you have to focus on the interests of your potential customers like you would with any other advertising vehicle.
