B12 Deficiency Symptoms Often Overlooked



B12 deficiency symptoms are plentiful but many consumers do not realize that they have a B12 deficiency until symptoms are pronounced. Vitamin B12 deficiency can be caused by an inadequate diet or from lack of stomach acid. Early symptoms are often quite noticeable and can be helped by adding a vitamin B12 supplement to your diet. Many don't realize that if B12 deficiency symptoms are not recognized early then the neurological damage can be irreversible.

The earliest B12 deficiency symptoms will be extreme fatigue, no appetite, nausea, problems with digestion and in women, loss of menstruation. Symptoms that follow are far more serious such as numbness of the hands and feet, depression, behavioral changes that can be quite striking, paranoia, fever, diarrhea, sore tongue, frequent upper respiratory infections and more.

It has been found that vegetarians and vegans are at a greater risk of developing B12 deficiency than others. Many also discover that there are B12 deficiency symptoms that are physical while others find they are victim to the psychological symptoms. Some physical symptoms will include muscle aches and pains, decreased reflexes, imbalance when eyes are closed. Psychological symptoms are memory loss, hallucinations, disorientation and dementia. These are just a few of the symptoms caused by lack of vitamin B12, there are many more. Be sure to check with your physician if you have any concerns about whether you or a family member is deficient in vitamin B12.

B12 deficiency symptoms will vary in adults compared with children. In children you may see the symptoms much sooner and to more extremes. A study is no being done on lack of vitamin B as the cause for obsessive compulsive behaviors (OCD) in children and adults. Many believe that the lack of vitamin B including B12 can cause lack of Serotonin in the brain and causing OCD symptoms. Many parents have found once they introduced vitamin B to their OCD child that they have seen significant improvement. Vitamin B is also known to increase a healthy nervous system along with healthy skin and good vision.

To avoid B12 deficiency symptoms you should eat plenty of meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy products. Vegetarians and vegans will need to add a vitamin supplement to their diet.
