Baby Proofing Tips for the Nursery
|
Baby Proofing the Crib The crib should be placed in a position that is safe from falling objects, this means that one should avoid placing unsecured mobile equipment on top because they might fall and hurt the child. The crib should contain few things because they may contribute to chocking the child to death thus pillows, padding inside the crib, staffed animals, blankets, mobiles and crib toys should be kept minimal. Ensuring the crib mattress fits in the crib properly eliminates the chances of the child’s suffocation. One should also avoid antique children cribs because they contain lead paints, contain broad spindle opening and at times have broken or missing pieces that could be detrimental to the child’s health. Changing Areas The little one should never be left unattended to in the changing area because the child is always playful and might roll off and fall on the floor. The changing areas should contain safety straps that hold the child on the same position to avoid accidents. The baby powders, plastic bags that are used to dispose off diapers and creams used on the babies body should be kept out of the child’s reach because the child can drink or eat them causing toxic poisoning to the child or rashes on the child’s skin. The plastic bags can also suffocate the child. Door and Closet Latches The nursery and closet doors should contain sleeves that prevent the child from opening the doors and gaining access to rooms that contain dangerous equipments like machinery. The doors in the nursery should be constructed in a way that the lid is not able to slam so as to protect the child’s finger. The toy box should also contain air holes incase the child locks themselves inside the box. The windows should also be fitted with latches to protect the child from falling off the balcony. Baby Monitor Purchasing a baby monitor enables the parents to keep track of the child’s sleeping patterns, thus they are able to protect them from any harm. Ensure that the monitor is switched on so as to keep track of the child’s activities.
