Back Pain the Magical Touch of Ayurveda @ Dr Kranthi Hyd

Human Spine is a remarkable combination of strong bones, flexible ligaments and tendons, large muscles and highly sensitive nerves. It is designed to be incredibly strong, protecting the highly sensitive nerve roots. Yet highly flexible, providing for mobility on many different planes. Most of us take this juxtaposition of strength, structure and flexibility for granted in our everyday lives until something goes wrong. Once we're driven to know what's wrong and what it will take to relieve the pain and prevent a recurrence.

If you have back pain, you are not alone. Nearly everyone at some point has back pain that interferes with work, routine daily activities, or recreation. Back pain, the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed work and is the second largest neurological ailment only Headche is more common.

AYURVEDA, “ The Science & Art of Life'' is based on the Tridosha Theory (VATA, PITTA, KAPHA). The Back Pain, Kati Shoola in Ayurveda is due to vitiated VATA. The Vata dosha is important of the tridoshas. Vata comes from the Sanskrit word 'VA' referring to ' Movement' & 'Enthusiasm'. Vata is the catalyst for all the functions in the body, to such an extent that Ayurveda considers Pitta & Kapha lame without Vata's involvement. Vata dominates the lower part of the body, which is below the Umbilicus. Vata generates consciousness and ex-pression & vata stimulates the expulsion of the wastes from the body.

Basic line of treatment in AYURVEDA:

Treatment involves 4 modalities:

1) Internal Therapy

2) External Therapy

3) Diet Management &

4) Life Style Management.

INTERNAL THERAPY involves using of Ayurvedic medications like Medicated Ghee Preparations (GHRITHAMS), oils( THAILAMS), Capsules, Tablets, Tonics etc to pacify the Vata.

EXTERNAL THERAPY includes Classical Panchakarma Therapies, Rejuvenation Procedures, Vatahara Chikitsa, Brumhana Chikitsa age old Marma Chikitsa.

Panchakarma is a Sanskrit word that means “five actions" or “ five procedures/ treatments". This is a process used to clean the body of toxic materials left by the disease and poor nutrition. Normally the body has the innate ability to efficiently process and remove these waste materials, including the vitiated doshas and correct imbalances in them as well as eliminate the harmful toxic out of your system. Depending on each individual's need all or only parts of the five therapies are utilized. These procedures must be administered by specially trained therapists in a definite sequence for a specified period of time & be supervised by a knowledgeable expert.

The Back Pain requires VASTI as the therapy to treat the vitiated Vata and its complications. Along with this, Abhyangam, Swedam, Sneha Virecanam. The Rejuvenation therapies like Kaya sekam(Sarvanga Dhara or Pizhichil) and Shali Shastika Pinda Swedam ( Navarakiddi) are also necessary according to the requirement and condition of the patient. In case od disc related conditions, for treating the vital points the famous MARMA CHIKITSA is to be followed strictly under the supervision of a Qualified Ayurvedic Specialist.
