Bad Credit Checking Account - Obtain an Account Today

A bad credit checking account can be hard to find once you have a bad mark against you due to owing banks money. When you first opened a checking account and overspent you balance would be marked with insufficient funds. The bank then reports you to what is known as ChexSystems. Once you are reported to ChexSystems as having bad credit, most banks will not allow you to take out a checking account since you are now considered a high risk. If by chance you are only suffering from bad credit because bills are past due, then it is still possible to get a bad credit checking account.

For those with bad credit obtaining a checking account is possible though it may be difficult. There are several ways to try and obtain a checking account once you've become a victim to a bad credit checking account. One way is to set up a meeting to speak with the account manager at your local bank. Offer to purchase a CD at their bank in exchange for a checking account. Since a CD can cost $1000, this will ensure the bank that you will keep up with your checking account and not bounce any checks. After a year of keeping your checking account in good standing, you can cash out your CD and keep the checking account.

If $1000 is out of your range there is another consideration for those who have bad credit. Checking account classes at a local credit union are often offered to those who suffer from bad credit. A class can cost about $30 to $40 per person and often a discount is offered to couples who take the class. Once the class is completed, the credit union will offer you a checking account. Some credit unions require employment at specific companies while others require you live in their county. Look around for a credit union that has restrictions that you can qualify for and sign up for their bad credit checking account courses.

Another idea is to re-establish your credit. Once you have a good credit rating, obtaining a checking account will be much easier. A bad credit checking account may be out of your reach once your credit score reaches the bottom. Some consumers will take out a small loan with a low interest rate. This is easy to obtain if you have collateral to offer the bank. Choose a loan with the lowest interest rate possible so you are sure to be able to pay back your loan. You won't want to risk losing your collateral. In as few as six months you can re-establish your credit and be able to obtain a checking account.
