Basic Facts on Nails and Nail care



Nails are crucial because they perform different jobs. In their absence, it would be impractical to perform many things.

Nails assist the animals clamp and crack the grub they eat. Human beings who are blessed with eating appliances don't rely on nails to eat. But, they protect the borders of the fingers and toes, and let us hold little things.

Several male guitarists, particularly classical performers, raise long nails to help for guitar picks and assist them pluck strings. In the absence of nails, it would also be impractical to scratch whatever tingling area you have!

Nails raise from the nail root that is observed underneath the skin. They are made out of keratin, the main protein in skin and hair. This results in getting the nail cells to harden. As fresh cells form underneath, they bump the hard cells that we can see as nails.

Contrary to ordinary belief, nails don't raise after death since they are already dead! They look to be growing as the skin compresses. Neither do nails perspire since they don't have perspiring glands. What becomes moist is the area around the nails. Because they are dead, nails don't need grub or nourishment. Their pink color comes from the wee blood vessels underneath.

The nail plates, contrary to the ordinary belief, cannot breathe. So they don't need oxygen. But, the nail beds and the cuticles are breathing cells and they do require oxygen, vitamins and minerals.

Toenails are thicker than fingernails but they raise quickly. It needs about four to six months for them to grow back while toenails require from 12 to 18 months. Ordinarily, men's nails raise quickly than women's nails. Children and pregnant women too have fast rising nails.

Weather too affect nail growth. Nails raise quickly in hot climates and during daytime, than in cold climates and at night. Nails raise at different swiftness on both hands. If you are right-handed, its natural that nails on your right hand will raise quickly than the nails on your left hand and vice versa. Trauma, typing on a computer etc. aids nail growth.

Nails reflect a person's state of health. When you are sick, it will definitely display in your nails. One of the most predominant nail problems is onychomycosis, a fungal disorder of the nails that can turn your nails awful and deformed. To stop this, take good care of your nails by washing and drying them thoroughly, wearing well- aired shoes and cotton socks that sponge up wetness, and using a good foot-powder.
