Bat Mitzvah Invitations: The Nuances and Subtleties of Bat Mitzvah Invitations

Bat Mitzvah invitations announce the most special and poignant time in a young Jewish girl's life. They should be tasteful, elegant, graceful, and colorful. They should be little sparks of your daughter's personality sent out to your friends and family. Jewish custom entails that the parents do the Bat Mitzvah invitation, but let your daughter give it a try. If she tries her hand at it, she just might succeed.

There are so many samples of Bat Mitzvah invitations online that's its staggering, overwhelming, and interesting all at once - kind of like your daughter's Bat Mitzvah and maturity process itself. Multi-colored rainbows, doves, orchids, butterflies, floral patterns, seashells, nature scenes, or Jewish elements like Tallits, Candelabras, mezuzahs, Torahs, teffelins, menorahs, yarmulkes, Magean David, Chai, and Hamesh hands are all possibilities. Butterflies suggest coming out of a cocoon and emerging as a woman, but if your daughter eschews butterflies, then go with whatever she likes. Remember, this will be sent out to her friends too, and you don't want her friends to think less of her. The best thing you can do for your daughter on her celebration of independence is to start letting her express herself individually. Otherwise, anecdotal reports suggest, the child could foster a negative toward Judaism, and assume that it's shallow and pretentious and controlling - and not a spiritual boon.

The fonts you can choose are innumerable, and they're only limited to the creative skills of the graphic designer you hired or whatever is available at the store or at the website online. Some fonts are cheesy and others are classical and elegant. Let your daughter choose, within reason, what she wants. The key point is to integrate your daughter's ideas into the design process so that it will, first of all, give her a positive attitude and role in her celebration proceedings, and, second of all, make her feel more comfortable before and during the celebration. The third benefit, the encouragement of her independence, is the most, dearly important one.

There are no set rules on invitation designs, but the power of your daughter's first intersection of childhood and adulthood should be subtly re-enforced with design decisions that the daughter helps out with. In the end, she'll want to keep it as a reminder of her celebration because it's artistically precious to her.

The Bat Mitzvah Invitation will be a keepsake for many years.
