Birth Months and Gemstones

For those interested in finding out what gemstone represents the month that they were born in, there may be some confusion. The gemstones that are used to represent specific months today were not used in the past. There are modern birthstones, traditional birthstones, mystical birthstones, Ayurvedic (Hindu science of health and medicine) birthstones, and other birthstones that represent each and every month. It really depends on which expert you ask.

January - The Garnet is the modern, traditional, and Ayurvedic gemstone for the month of January. The Garnet, which is often thought only to be red in color, can actually have colors ranging from colorless to black. The mystical gemstone for January, however, is the Emerald, which is green in color. Rose Quartz, which is pink, is another gemstone that is used to represent January.
