If you want total blackness you can invest in a blackout drape but if you just want to darken up the room you can easily do that with a pair of black curtains and it will cost you a fraction of the cost. Sunlight filtering in can really make it tough to sleep and its also a real pain if you are trying to watch a movie in the theater room when the suns rays are seeping in. When you hang your drapes overlap the by at least 6 inches top, sides, and bottom unless they are floor length drapes then keep them 6 inches from the floor. This will not only block out the light it will create a level of privacy. No one will even catch a glimpse of the inside of a room from the outside. If you have infants and young children darkening the room will provide for proper rest periods. And if you suffer from eyes train your blacked out office will eliminate the glare.
