Boat Buying: Important Features To Consider Before buying a Boat
|
When buying a boat, you should also take into account the climate, the area, and where it will be used. You should know about how the waters are in the area when looking to different models. Knowing how the water and waves are in the area can help determine what kind of deadrise and freeboard you will need. For example smaller waves would need less deadrise and freeboard compared to a boat which would be used in rougher waters. Also if the boat will be used in warmer climates, then it will be used much more often. This would mean you should consider purchasing extended warranties. The opposite would be true for colder climates. When you have determined what the boat will be used for and the climate in which is will be used in, it is time to purchase the boat. Similar to a house or a car, you will have the option to buy a new or used boat. Newer boats are most expensive however you will not have to worry about repairs or un-maintained and neglected parts. If you do choose to buy a used model I would highly consider hiring a technician to check the parts and make sure they are in a healthy working order. As an extra added precaution, you may want to be an extended warranty directly from the previously owner as a way of guaranteeing the boat will not need money invested into repairs. If you have chosen to buy your boat new there are many ways to avoid a premium price. A very good place to buy your first boat would be at boat shows. Boat shows are often held once a year and they are a very good place to compare different prospective models. Often at boat shows there are special one day prices, I would highly suggest consider negotiating these prices down and consider the boat if it meets your specifications. Likewise with buying a car, you can buy older models from dealers who are trying to clear our old inventory. This is a very good way to save money, you should research what features are missing on the older models and think about you would need them, if you don't then you have found yourself a boat for an excellent price. Buying a boat has strict guidelines. If you are buying new, make sure the agreement has been checked over and you do agree with everything listed in the contract. If you unfamiliar with these types of technicalities there are brokers whom can help the transfer be as smooth as possible. If you are buying used, hire a boat technician to check the boat for broken or used out parts. Remember if you are buying the boat used, draft your own contract in writing and don't be afraid to get the contract profession written. Buying a boat is not much different from buying a car. Don't be afraid to ask for a test run. Your first impressions of the boat will determine if you like it or not, I would recommend taking an hour to get acquainted with it and understand the smaller details of the boat. If it suits your needs, do some research. You can check with magazines or websites about the boat, read reviews and opinions and even try finding forums that would have owners of the same boat. Buying a boat is no easy job, it takes time and patience; however, with the right set of mind you can end up with the boat of your dreams for a nice price.
