Bodine Grabs First Daytona Win

Todd Bodine, the 43 year-old driver of the No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota, celebrates after winning the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Chevy Silverado 250 at Daytona. To note, he has won 12 races but never at Daytona International Speedway. This is why the Daytona win was something special to him.

At Friday's race, Bodine held off Kyle Busch to win the race for the first NASCAR points win of the season. "This racetrack's been pretty cruel to us," Bodine noted after the race. "And now it's been pretty good to us in a lot of ways."

Busch finished second, struggling for the win after being caught up with an early crash. Toyotas grab the top four spots at Daytona with Johnny Benson's No. 23 Toyota and David Starr's No. 11 Toyota, third and fourth respectively.

Erik Darnell, pole-sitter, finished 21st. It was the very first time since 2005 that a pole-sitter did not win the Chevy Silverado 250.

By the 25th lap, 15 cars had wrecked and six were out of the race, with one having burst into flames, according to the Sun Sentinel.

During Friday's race, attrition is everywhere. But the trucks of Toyota, Ford, Chevy as well as the rest of the competitors sported endurance. On lap 18, Busch's No. 51 car came down the track and made contact with Mike Skinner's No. 5 Toyota. It resulted in the slamming of more cars. Additionally, P.J. Jones' No. 63 Ford caught fire as it rolled into the infield.

Brendan Gaughan, Jon Wood, Chad Chaffin, Ted Musgrave and Matt Crafton were also involved in a collision. Replays showed that Gaughan got close to the back of Skinner's truck, but the latter said the former did not hit him. "I don't think Brendan hit us," Skinner said. "I think 51 hit us. Awful early in the race to be making moves like that."

Other drivers aired their resentment toward Busch as well. "Kyle will just say, I'll race tomorrow," Gaughan said. "He doesn't care about this. It's just fun time."

After the race, Busch intimated his apologies. "When I tried turning down the race track, it turned down a little bit too quick," he said. "I apologize that I wrecked their day and ruined their Daytona performance."

Busch recovered and did not get into any more dangerous encounters, notwithstanding what he said was a car that was hard to handle at times.

What can the happiest driver at Daytona say about the turnout of events? "This is my 20th year coming to this speedway. I came here for three years as a crew member, and 17 years as a driver. I've finished second and third. I've crashed hard and burned a couple times. Finally, after 17 years driving here, we're finally here (in victory lane)," he noted.

"This is incredible," Bodine concluded. "I had my first seven birthdays over in turn three. This has been a huge part of my family. To finally get here is unbelievable."
