Both bedding sand and stone need to be in place before you secure your bricks though. That way you are able to offer a solid foundation for them. There are plenty of great patterns and designs you can find online and in books to help you get a good idea of the type of brick driveway you want. You can even drive around town and take photos of others you see that are interesting to you. Many software programs can help you determine how many bricks you will need for the job and how to lay them into a certain pattern. Make sure you use quality materials to secure the bricks into place. If you are making a pattern, you will need to lay them out in an area and be sure the pattern is correct before you secure them in place. As you get to the edge of your driveway it may be necessary to cut bricks in order for them to fit. All of the bricks should be firmly against each other without any gaps between them.
