Build Your Own Wall Fountain
|
Whats unique about a wall fountain is that it does not need a water supply because the water is self contained and circulates. Its really quite simple. The cable from the pump gets fed through the same hole that is drilled for the hose pipe. You will need to decide on a water container for you wall fountain. There are many different styles on the market and there are many ways to combine the styles that are available. Mix and match how you like. The container is really an integral part of your overall effect. Troughs, half oak barrels, buckets, pebble pools, are just a few ideas that work well. You only need a depth of 3 to 4 inches for your container to work. Then you will need to choose the pump type you are going to use. There are several types on the market and different sizes so do your research to ensure you get a pump that is adequate for your project. You will want to hide the hose to give the illusion of free flowing water. The hose will need to be long enough to easily reach from the pump to the point of the spout. Leave yourself enough hose so that you properly hide it. If your fountain is on an outside wall such as a garage you can drill two holes; one for the spout and one for the basin and then you can thread the hose through and tuck it behind the wall. This is a very easy method to hide the hose. Too bad all wall fountains arent that simple. In situations that arent so easy you will have to find creative ways to hide the hose. Channel it, find cavities in the wall space, build fake walls, use a trellis, or hide the hose in a vine like Ivy. In fact thats the second simplest method for hiding the hose. Wall fountains can be built for inside and outside. Here are just a few ideas that are easy to put together. 1. Bucket and Spigot Mount your spigot about 6 inches above the bucket. Use a milk pail, French bucket, or copper pail. Adorn with vines to help disguise your hose. 2. Three Tier Pottery Basin This is a lovely look for a patio or deck wall. Choose three basin in graduating sizes and have the water trickle from top to bottom. This has excellent feng shui characteristics. 3. Horizontal Mirror Fountain Waterfall This is a great piece for an entrance way. Turn your mirror so that you have length. Build a wood frame top and bottom. The water will trickle down the front of the mirror. Its got excellent viewing appeal. Thats only three simple ideas of when there are literally hundreds. You are limited only by our imagination.
