Business Internet Server Options
|
One of the first things you may want to consider when selecting an internet service provider is specifically what type of provider you need for your business or personal requirements. With this in mind, it's important to understand the differences between the various types of hosting services offered. One of the most common types of hosting services you will find is referred to as shared hosting. You may also hear this type of hosting referred to as virtual hosting. This type of hosting means that you are one server with many other clients. One of the advantages of this type of hosting service is that you may be able to save some money because costs are being split among several different clients of the internet server. There are some disadvantages that you should be aware of with this type of hosting; however. One of the biggest disadvantage of this type of hosting is that should one of the other sites that you are sharing a server with experience a heavy amount of traffic, this could result in performance problems for your own site. If you need absolute performance, this could be a tremendous problem. In addition, if you require the installation of special software, this may also be a problem with a shared or virtual host server. In the event that you need a very stable hosting environment with little chance of disruption; you may need what is known as a dedicated server. This type of server will typically cost more than a share host; however, it provides important advantages. There are actually two different types of dedicated hosting services. One is known as managed dedicated hosting and the other is referred to as unmanaged dedicated hosting. With unmanaged dedicated hosting, you as the client will lease a server from the host and will be provided with some limited support. If you need very responsive service; however, this may not be the best route to choose. Instead, you may wish to opt for a managed dedicated server; which provides increased levels of maintenance and support. Of course, the price is typically higher for this type of support, but if you need absolute reliability and performance, this may be an exchange you wish to make. Keep in mind when choosing an internet service provider that one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to go with the provider with the lowest price. While we all feel the need to save money, in some cases, this can result in problems. When choosing an internet service provider this can result in major problems. Be sure to find out whether your provider tacks on extra charges. Many times this may be concealed in the fine print. If you're not sure how the charges are defined, be sure to ask before you lock yourself into a contract. Beyond taking the time to fully understand exactly what type of hosting plan you are signing up for with your internet service provider it's also important to ask plenty of questions before you sign on the dotted line. Be sure to find out if your host has plenty of experienced administrators on staff as well as what kind of technical support program your host offers.
