Buying Cordless Drill Replacement Batteries

If you have decided to buy, or already own a cordless drill, than you need to consider buying cordless drill replacement batteries if you haven't already done so. Having a cordless drill can be very convenient, and using one can many times be safer than using a corded drill. When you use a cordless drill, you don't have to worry about the cord not being long enough, about tripping over the cord or the cord knocking something over, and you can work in tight or awkward spaces more easily. The drawback to using a cordless drill, however, is that it runs on batteries, and batteries can die at inopportune times. Even though cordless drills come with rechargeable batteries, these batteries will need to be replaced, usually every two or three years whether you use the cordless drill often or not, and these rechargeable batteries can be expensive. The best thing to do when you have a cordless drill is to make sure that it comes with good rechargeable batteries and a good battery charger right from the start, and also, you need to buy a good set of cordless drill replacement batteries.

Most replacement batteries are comparable as far as lifespan and power, although they can vary according to the manufacturer or what type of rechargeable batteries they are. Most rechargeable batteries are made from nickel-cadmium, and these types of batteries are what usually come with the cordless drill that you buy. Nickel-cadmium batteries last a long time and usually produce power efficiently, but disposing of them can pose a problem. Cadmium is toxic to the environment, and can leak into water sources from batteries that are in landfills. Nickel-cadmium batteries need to be recycled or disposed of properly, but not everyone is environmentally conscious enough to follow these rules.

Nickel-metal-hydride batteries can be a better alternative to nickel-cadmium batteries, since they seem to last as long as nickel-cadmium batteries and they are much less toxic to the environment. The problem is that they may not be as easy to find as nickel-cadmium batteries, although over the years this is becoming less of a problem. Nickel-metal-hydride batteries should still be recycled, but if they aren't, they don't pose as much of a danger.

Whichever cordless drill replacement batteries you decide to buy, make sure that you always have charged batteries when you are using your cordless drill. This means that you need to start out with fully charged batteries in your drill when you begin working, and you need to make sure that your replacement batteries are also fully charged. If the task that you are working on is going to require that you use your cordless drill a lot, then your replacement batteries will come in handy. When you have two or more sets of rechargeable batteries, you can always be sure that you can do your job without a frustrating interruption.

Remember that since you will probably buy your cordless drill and the back-up batteries at roughly the same time, they will probably last about the same amount of time too. This means that after a couple years or more you will have to buy completely new replacement batteries. Make sure that you buy the kind of replacement batteries that will fit with your drill and your charger, and always buy enough so that you always have charged batteries ready when you are using your drill.
