Buying a Game Console? Do Your Homework! In 1951,Ralph Baer, a man who worked on televisions, had an idea. He thought that the people who watched TV would enjoy playing an interactive game, if displayed on the same TV screen. He did not realize that his idea would one day cause many people to compare video game consoles. He had no inkling that his idea would lead to the writing of many Xbox reviews. In fact, Mr. Baer's boss was not at all impressed with his employee's early attempts in creating a game console. So Mr. Baer suspended his inventive efforts. He did not, however, forget about his idea. He tried again in 1966 to develop some sort of game console. Mr. Baer's second effort led to the creation of a prototype. It did not look like an Atari or a Game Cube, but it was the start of a game console. Mr. Baer showed his prototype to a lead official at the Sanders Association. By 1968, the Sanders Association had put something similar to a game console on the market. Magnavox then purchased the rights to that equipment; they called it a Magnavox Odessey. In 1976 consumers saw the world's first true game console, the Fairchild VES. Within the next 15 years electronics stores began to offer an upgraded Magnavox Odessey, an Atari game console, a Sega Dreamcast and a Genesis game console.
