CLSID: What Is CLSID And How Does It Work?

Sometimes, you may need to install a registry cleaner, to get your registry back the way it was before getting cluttered with all kinds of information. In case you do not know what a registry cleaner is needed for, we will explain it to you right away. When you browse through different websites online, you may be asked, at some point, to allow for the installation of some ActiveX components. These components are needed, so the page you view can be displayed properly. If you deny the installation of the ActiveX components, you will not see the page as it was designed. Luckily, you will not have to spend all day downloading Active X components, as, once they are installed on your computer, you will not need to do that again. Still, downloads like this tend to crowd the registry and that is the moment when you need a registry cleaner.

What CLSID stands for?

You may ask yourself now: how can a website say that your computer has or has not the needed ActiveX components? It is not actually the website, but the browser used for navigation, which will refer to the issue; the object tag for the respective ActiveX component will be referred to the CLSID - this tag is used for the website to add the component. Each ActiveX control has a CLSID, as a tag for identification. This CLSID will be retained in the registry, when you will install the ActiveX component on your computer. There are actually thousands of IDs retained by the registry, and this causes it to become cluttered in time. You will need a registry cleaner to discipline that mess and you will find enough of them on the Internet, and totally free of charge.

Tags and objects

As shown earlier, CLSID is that tag that can help the system identify an ActiveX component. Here is how the component gets installed on your computer. The object tag in the browser code will be processed by the browser. Then, the browser will check to see if you already have that component installed or not on your machine. Depending on this answer, the browser will ask you - or not - if you want to install the ActiveX control. This verification is done through checking the CAB file and the INF file. After you download and install the component, the page will be displayed properly.

The registry is the place where all that happens in your computer is kept as a record. There is a lot of information that the registry deals with, from hardware details, to programs and files that are installed on the hard drive. As the registry does not clean itself automatically, in time, a lot of information will get built up inside of it and it will work slower and slower. When that happens, make sure to have a registry cleaner to help you get the job done. Your system will become faster and smoother, after a registry cleaning is performed.

This is all about that you need to know on CLSID and how it works. The rest of the story is merely technical and it does not present too much interest for anyone. Remember to have a registry cleaner around, as it may come in handy from time to time.
