Cadillac Allante - A Luxury Roadster
|
About the Development of the Car First of all, let's take a look at the development of the Cadillac Allante. This was first designed under a special code name which was the "Callisto. " The reason that it was first developed was because Cadillac wanted to get back in position as a competitor with the company Mercedes Benz. The engine as well as the chassis of the Allante was taken from the Eldorado that was made by Cadillac. However, there were other components of the vehicle that it shared with other cars, such as the Oldsmobile Toronado, as well as the Buick Riviera and the Buic Reatta. The Allante's body was actually built in the country of Italy. It was build by Pininfarina who is famed for the Ferrari. Once the bodies of the Cadillac Allante were completed, they were then shipped off to the United States. A special Boeing 747 was used to send them and 56 of the bodies were able to be shipped at one time. Over time, there were about 21,000 of these cars that were made. The Specs No doubt you are interested in the specs of the Cadillac Allante as well. Well, at first, a port fuel injected V8 4. 1 L engine was put in this vehicle. It also had a special suspension system that was strut based as well. It came with disc brakes on each wheel too. However, in 1989 they would up the power by putting in a 4. 5 liter V8 engine and it also contained a special system that was known as the Speed Dependent Damping Control, which would make the suspension firmer at certain speeds. Later on in 1993, once again it would get a bigger engine, receiving a great 4. 6 liter V8 engine, would had 295 horse power. About the Speed By the time the last upgrades were made to the Cadillac Allante, and it contained the 4. 6 liter V8 engine, it really had great speed. It had a top speed of 140 miles per hour with this engine. It did the quarter mile in just 15 seconds as well. This roadster was able to do 0-60 mph in just 6. 4 seconds and it could reach 100 mph in 17. 7 seconds flat. About The Author: |
