Cala Lily - How to Successfully Grow them

The Cala Lily is a very lovely flower and you can learn how to successfully grown them on your own. Many people choose this type of flower for weddings, receptions, and even dinner parties. However, they can be expensive to purchase from a flower shop. With some hard work and the right process though you can enjoy more of them for much less.

You will find that Cala Lilies are offered in a variety of different colors. They are known to bloom in the late spring. They can be from 18 inches to 24 inches high when they are fully grown. You will want to plant them in the early summer in order to give them the best chance of growing successfully.

You don't want your efforts to be in vain, so make sure you do it right from the start. Properly preparing the soil before you plant Cal Lilies is essential. It needs to be very rich in nutrients and it needs to be well drained. You will want the area to be moister than what you are used to with other types of bulbs though.

It may surprise you at how deep you need to plant these bulbs below the surface. You want to be sure they are at least four inches deep. You also want to leave about 12 inches of space between each one of them. You need to be careful not to plant them too close though. If they are overcrowded it will hinder their blossoms and you will be disappointed.

They are mainly grown outdoors in an area where they can get plenty of sunlight each day. Some people have also successfully grown them indoors on a window sill though as well. Make sure you have them in a place with plenty of sunlight, water them often, and that they are in excellent soil.

You may want to plan one color of the Cala Lily or a variety of them. Some popular colors include white, lavender, and yellow. You can definitely add some definition and color to your landscaping by having these types of flowers in place. They will give your home a warm feeling that you will enjoy each time you come home. They will also encourage other people to come visit.

If you don't remove your Cala Lilies from the garden to display after they bloom, you will notice they start to die a bit. You may be tempted to remove these leaves but allow them to linger. They will continue to collect energy which means next year they will blossom even better. Should they become completely folded over in the blooms though you will want to clip them off. You can look forward to them again next spring!
