Can Divorce Liberate You?

When two people unite, they do so with lots of hope, expectations, and optimism about their future. Marriage marks the beginning of a new era with new dreams waiting to be fulfilled. Marriages are supposed to be made in heaven. Divorce, on the other hand, can be a living hell. Or is it?

Is Divorce Always Distressing?

Divorce can be a bitter time for many people. However, for some people, it can also be a liberating experience. When a marriage is bad and heading for the worse, divorce can give you the necessary change and the much-awaited chance to move on with your life. Therefore, divorce can be a welcome change to escape the doldrums of a bad marriage.

Slow Erosion of a Marriage

Times change and people change as well. When two people are married, they are supposed to grow together, as lovers as well as individuals. However, some people fail to realize the importance of this change or refuse to grow with this change. As a result, they feel that their spouse has changed and they are unable to understand or cope up with the changed personality.

There are times when people become so busy in the other aspects of their lives such as work and children that they forget to pay that much attention to their spouse to actually notice the subtle changes over a period of time. When two people stop understanding each other, they fail to realize the importance of each other in their lives. Therefore, the very concept of marriage and companionship is challenged in such situations.

Staying with an individual who does not understand you or your needs can be a frustrating experience. It becomes hard for both the partners to understand the change. While marriage therapy may help in some cases, it will not work all the time because spouses do not know how to relate to each other anymore.

A deep sense of loneliness can engulf the mind and divorce will seem like a pleasant change because it will give both the partners the opportunity to start their lives afresh and possibly with someone that they both can relate to at that point in their lives.

Turning Point in a Marriage

While there are some marriages that fall prey to subtle changes, there are others that experience a clear turning point in the marriage. After this turning point, marital relationship changes for the worse. A clear turning point in the marriage may be incident of an extramarital affair or destruction of mutual self-respect due to some issue. The marriage appears to be downhill after this point and one or both the partners may feel loss of love and affection towards each other.

The marriage can appear to be extremely superficial in such cases because the very foundation of love, respect, caring and affection seems shaken. In such cases, divorce can be a breath of fresh air because divorce can allow both the people to move on with their lives without feeling trapped in a loveless and affectionless marriage.

Abusive Marriages

Marriages wherein one partner is a victim of gross physical or emotional abuse can be very testing. In most cases, the abused partner chooses to stay in the marriage hoping that things will change for the better one day. However, when the abusive behaviour crosses the frontier of the victim's endurance, divorce or even the idea of divorce seems to be heaven-sent.

Every person has the right to live happily without going through the physical and mental torture. Divorce can enable the victim of an abusive marriage to live his or life as he or she wants to and start life afresh leaving the wounds and bitter memories of the abusive marriage far behind.

Can Divorce be the Beginning of a New Fresh Chapter in Your Life?

Divorce can bring with it some important changes in your life. Take time for introspection. Most people feel that the period after divorce gives a feeling of immense peace and comfort, as if a huge burden has been lifted from their minds. This change allows the people to explore themselves, find out what they want from life, and understand themselves as individuals.

This journey of self-exploration can be very enlightening for most people. Not only people realise what they want out of their life, they also understand better about what they expect out of their future partner. When the emotional turmoil in a marriage is so immense, people are mostly immersed in feelings of sorrow and despair.

When you are in a bitter marriage, most of your time is spent thinking about your partner and your failed relationship. However, the period after divorce gives the people the time to think about themselves and indulge in hobbies or activities that they had always wanted to do. This new feeling of freedom to experiment with life can have a very positive effect on people.
