Can You Give Just A Little To Charity?

Everyday somewhere someone is in desperate need of help of some kind. That’s why charity organizations around the world are constantly appealing for your dollars to help. This year can you give just a little to just one charity?

Some days it’s almost overwhelming. As natural disasters hit around the world groups such as the Red Cross and Doctors without borders appeal for help. Organizations such as Save the Children, UNICEF, and a host of other groups that work to help children are continuously appealing for help and justly so. Then we have local homeless problems, food banks that are begging for donations and pet rescue centers that need just a little help. And every day people from around the world generously give!

And between all this tragedy you’ll hear overwhelming tales of goodness that make your heart sore and confirm that humanity is still alive and well.

Let’s look at the quick aid that was sent out to help those devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Just recently a single mom with 7 children lost her home and all her belongings to a fire. The community rallied together and within a week they had found her another place to live and contributions were pouring in. Today an appeal went out for home that could take in 7 puppies that were abandoned by the owner on a city street at only a couple hours of age. Within 2 hours each puppy had a home where they would be nursed and cared for until they were ready to have new homes. I could go on and on!

What’s really heart wrenching is when you see young children called to action because of the goodness in their heart. You’ll see young children setting up lemonade stands or collecting pennies to help the less fortunate. So much goodness in such young bodies! Some of us could learn from them.

Humanity is strong and when we are called upon we quickly dig into our pockets and spare what we can or we act and do what we can. The trouble is we tend to get lethargic in-between the news bites. After all with our busy lives we sometimes just don’t have time to think about it. We certainly don’t mean to forget about the less fortunate!

And some corporations are terrific at giving back to the community as well. Walmart with Hurricane Katrina, Ronald McDonald Houses which provide a place for families of seriously ill children to stay, or Tim Horton’s Camp for special needs children to name just a few. Many corporations recognize they have a duty to give back to their communities and countries. For those that don’t perhaps they could take lessons.

The needs around the world are endless. We could quite literally give away our entire paycheck and not make a dent on the needs of the less fortunate. Of course that’s unrealistic but why don’t we make a new commitment to charity?

Why not pick one or even two charities that you believe in their cause and make a commitment to donate money or time. There are many ways that you can donate. Just a few hours of volunteer work a week can make a huge difference in your local community and just a few dollars a month can make a difference in your local community or in a country far away.

Rich or poor isn’t it time we all decided to help those that are less fortunate? Can you give just a little to charity? Just a little will fill the hearts of many and you can and will make a difference!
