Caring For Your Hot Tub Lids
|
The vinyl material used in your spa lid is polyvinyl chloride or PVC which is sealed with a special material that also contains a softening agent that helps keep it soft and looking great. It is important to maintain the vinyl and protect it against from UV rays. Even the vinyl marine grade PVC that is used in most of these covers is sensitive to UV rays and will break down over time. Proper protection will keep the vinyl protected as well as looking its best and it only takes a few minutes to apply. It will also help prevent the vinyl from cracking and fading and it will also prevent mildew. Always apply the protectant to both the top and bottom side of the cover. Make sure you also do all the sides and give the seams a little TLC. Before applying the protectant it is a good idea to regularly clean the cover. Fine dirt and dust is abrasive and will cause wear on the cover especially on the seams. Mildew loves to grow in damp and dirty conditions and will actually take hold in the vinyl. Cleaning the cover is very simple. Remove the cover from the spa then grab your garden hose and give it a cool water rinse. Spray the entire cover with an environmentally friendly cleaner. Never use anything harsh. Any stubborn stains youll have to scrub manually. Let spray soak as per directions then rinse. Then apply the protectant. There are several products on the market that can do the job nicely. One of those products is 303 Protectant which is an non toxic environmentally friendly formula thats worth checking out. Dont just grab any vinyl protectant. They are not all the same and the wrong treatment can damage the cover. So make sure you know what you are using! Any vinyl protectant that has the flammable symbol should be avoided because it means it has petroleum based distillates which look good when applied but will cause the cover to actually deteriorate. There are a variety of hot tub lids on the market with the vinyl cover being the most common. Follow these instructions to keep your vinyl cover looking great and for other covers follow the directions provided. .
