Our lives are busy, without even one sweet moment to savour in the veritable good life. So where can you even find the time to redecorate one of the most important possessions in your life? The solution is as simple or as complicated as you want it to be.

Start with the simpler things, such as a basic change of the light fittings on the walls. Even the very thriftiest of home decoration stores stock a wide selection of light fixtures that can do wonders to the room of any home. A soft-glow light will bring a warm glow at night and look incredible during the day. The larger, the better applies for inside rooms – for the outside it is best to go with a smaller, more understated lighting fixture.

Painting is an outstanding option, and one that needs not be complex. Apply a fresh coat to the room of your choice and watch how it instantly becomes a new and exciting area. Mix and match colours and paint the room of your choice with bold statements, defined by colours that match your home's personality. For a dash of shine, employ gloss or semi-gloss and watch your designs sparkle!

Do not forget to get yourself a tool belt, as this will prevent many hours of back and forth to the toolbox. A sturdy tool belt filled with nails, a place for your screwdriver, hammer and drill is necessary item for any busy remodeler to have.

So now that you know of a few options, what else can you change to improve the looks of your home? Can it be as simple as sanding down the built-in cupboards and applying a new layer of varnish? Yes it can.

Are the doorknobs in your home still the same ones that were there when you moved in? Replace them at once! Brushed metal, shining chrome and nickel designed handles are waiting for you at the numerous homeware sites around the internet or even at actual stores. They are easy to install and bring a new sense of design to almost any room in the home.

Secondly, toilet seats - yes, you read that correctly. Replace the white plastic seats that stifle the creative potential of a decent bathroom and add lights, shining oak or vibrant designs that will make any guest stop and stare. While we are discussing the bathroom area, are your shower doors perhaps interrupting your bathroom's feng shui? Remove them, clean them down with a scraping device and shaving blades (removing the old silicone that turns brown) and install them once more for a shining shower door.

The light switches, are they dank and rusted? Remove them at once and install new plates that fit the aesthetic of your home. Add a dimmer switch and change the ambiance on the fly. This and many other options are viable for the home decorator. Just don't steal office furniture and pawn it off as the latest in couching; that's passé!
