Chevy Lumina
|
The Chevy Lumina was discontinued in 2001. Many were sad to see it go but Chevy wanted to take a new direction. The introduction of the Chevy Impala took over for the market where the Lumina had left off. There was no mistaking the strategy of Chevy though due to the high sales that the Impala had from the very start. What is found out there with this type of vehicle falls into two generations. The first generation are those Chevy Lumina's from 1989 to 1994. It was designed to compete with the Ford Taurus and the Pontiac Grand Prix. The fact that it was an aluminum car meant it was cheaper to manufacture so it could be sold at a much lower price. It wasn't long though before the competition was copying that part of these vehicles. That is why the Chevy Lumina got a new look for 1995 and that is where the second generation begins, running through 2001. It was only offered as a four door sedan due to the Monte Carlo coming back into the picture as a two door coupe option for consumers. The Chevy Lumina was able to be very fast and very efficient due to the overall light weight of the vehicle. With the Chevy Lumina about to be discontinued, the company offered some great deals. Companies could by them for business use at a low price if they purchased many of them. Car rental companies could also get in on the deal by purchasing a large number of them. That is why you will find there are more 2001 Chevy Lumina's out there than any other year. Even though it has been a while since a new Chevy Lumina was introduced, there are still many of them on the road. They are exceptionally well made vehicles that are light and fuel efficient. You should be able to purchase a great looking used Chevy Lumina for $1,000 or less. Many of them have been modified to give them additional speed too. This can make a perfect used vehicle for commuting or for new drivers. You will also find plenty of Chevy Lumina years covered on the drag racing circuit. Since they are light weight it gives them an advantage to pick up speed faster off the line. About The Author: |
