Choose The Right Palm Fertilizer For Your Palm Trees

Your landscape palms can look fabulous with just a little TLC. Start by choosing the right palm fertilizer for your palm trees. Remember not just any fertilizer will work!

There are special formulas designed for palm trees and by using these special formulas you'll see the best results.

One of the best formulas are the palm tree spikes which are easy to use, fast and efficient, and long lasting. These spikes will fertilize your palms while protecting them from deficiencies common to palms. These include iron, potassium, magnesium, copper, and manganese deficiencies which are very common.

These spikes contain nitrogen combined with magnesium, manganese, copper sulfates, potassium, and iron which are slowly released to feed the roots of your palm tree. By using proprietary binders they are very effective at ensuring the nutrients are absorbed by the roots. It is important to use the correct number of spikes for the size of the tree.

If your tree is showing signs of a particular deficiency or you are unsure of the deficiency start with spikes and see if things clear up. If they do not it is always a good idea to consult a professional to ensure you properly treat it.

Manganese Deficiency SymptomsNew leaves have a yellow coloring and necrosis between the veins. The leaves are smaller than normal and if the deficiency is severe the leaves will look fried. A manganese deficiency that is not treated will be fatal to your palm tree.

Potassium Deficiency SymptomsLeaves will be yellow with brown or orange flecks and older leaves will have necrotic margins as well as withering. If it is a severe deficiency new growth will also be affected and if left untreated your palm will die.

Magnesium Deficiency SymptomsWill affect the older leaves turning them yellow at the edges. In serious deficiencies leaf tips can become necrotic.

By learning to recognize deficiencies you will be better able to correctly treat your palm trees. General palm fertilizing is also very important and should be done according to the directions on the packaging.

Palm trees can present some unique challenges to ensure they stay healthy and understanding these challenges ensures you choose the correct palm fertilizer and have the nicest palms on the block!
