Choose The Right Palm Tree Fertilizer

There's nothing quite as impressive as healthy palm trees blowing gently with the summer breeze and it all starts with the right palm tree fertilizer. Not just any fertilizer will work!

There are special formulas designed especially for palm trees and when you use these highly specialized formulas you will be rewarded with great looking trees that are healthy and beautiful.

Besides choosing a good palm tree formula it is also important to ensure you know how to recognize deficincies that can occur with palm trees. When you are able to recognize these deficinicies then they can be easily dealt with.

Palm tree fertilizers should contain nitrogen combined with magnesium, manganese, copper sulfates, potassium, and iron which are slowly released to feed the roots of your palm tree. By using proprietary binders they are very effective at ensuring the nutrients are absorbed by the roots. .

The following are common deficiencies seen with palm trees. Learn to recognize them at a glance. It will save you time and money over the long run.

1. Manganese Deficiency SymptomsNew leaves have a yellow coloring and necrosis between the veins. The leaves are smaller than normal and if the deficiency is severe the leaves will look fried. A manganese deficiency that is not treated will be fatal to your palm tree.

2. Potassium Deficiency SymptomsLeaves will be yellow with brown or orange flecks and older leaves will have necrotic margins as well as withering. If it is a severe deficiency new growth will also be affected and if left untreated your palm will die.

3. Magnesium Deficiency SymptomsWill affect the older leaves turning them yellow at the edges. In serious deficiencies leaf tips can become necrotic.

If you have a deficiency choose a fertilizer that addresses it to rectify the problem. There are many palm fertilizer products on the market and each will have different instructions for the application. Be sure to follow carefully.

You can choose from spikes, liquid, or even granulated formulas. The spikes are my favorite choice as they are easy, convenient, effective, and very affordable, followed by the liquid fertilizers.

Palm trees can present some unique challenges but they are worth that little bit of effort to find the right palm tree fertilizer for your plants. There's nothing quite as rewarding as healthy palms!
