Choosing The Right Fertilizing Equipment

Choosing the right fertilizing equipment can be very difficult. After all every farm has their own unique way of doing thing, their own practices, soil types, strategies, and cash flow. These days there is a great deal of concern over the erosion of the soil, the unstable grain market, and the high cost of operating the farm.

All these new pressures have also caused pressure for equipment manufacturers who have been force to come up with new and innovative equipment designs that better focus on the issues of today which include better handling of trash, better fertilizer distribution, and disturbing the soil a lot less.

And the industry has been quick to come through. Today there is a terrific selection of seeding equipment available which is designed for specific crops and a variety of different planting conditions.

And fertilizing equipment has also improved a great deal. Today's equipment not only distributes the seed it meters it and accurately delivers the correct amount of fertilizer based on the settings you have chosen. Today's seeders are a lot less complicated then those of just 10 years ago and many of them are computerized.

Each seed meter will control the amount of seed that is released and even the travel speed can be adjusted. There are two types of meters the varied speed and the varied displacement meter. Both are available on either the air seeders or the traditional seeders.

Both fertilizers and seeders will also need to be calibrated according to manufacturer's specifications. The tube gauge makes it quite easy to calibrate unless you are adjusting for finer seeds then the tube gauge is not appropriate and you will need to use alternative methods such as weighing balance scales.

Gravity delivery systems uniformly distribute the seed or fertilizer using a metered system while the air delivery system uses a single meter through manifolds. There are actually three different air distribution systems on the market so do your research to make sure you get the one appropriate for your crops.

Seeding and fertilizing could be considered a bit of a fine art. After all it's important that you get the product evenly distributed and within the controlled area. But once you understand your equipment you'll have little trouble getting the job down.

What's most important is taking your time to do your research. That way when you are choosing your fertilizing equipment you'll know exactly what you need for your crop types, soil types, strategies, and budget.
