You can avoid letting debris build up in your dishwasher, if you just use the machine very often. When you start the machine, check for clogged holes. Water has to run freely through every hole, so the machine gets washed properly. A part that you need to pay attention to consists of the spinning arms. With a toothpick, remove the clogged debris, but make sure that you do not scratch the surface too bad. The gasket of your machine can get dirty and it usually does not get washed during the process. With a damp cloth and little cleaning substance, wipe it off. A place where debris can accumulate is under the door; wipe this area like you did with the gasket. The same attention has to be paid to the debris accumulated in the drain. Because the waste water goes through here, it is not unusual that bigger pieces get stuck in here. A good point is to make sure that you do not throw any large pieces of food or other things in there, if you want to avoid clogging the drain. When you wash these parts, a good advice is to unplug the machine. The following step includes removal of the screws. Make sure that you do not lose any of them, as it could be very hard then to put them back the way they were. Turning the machine upside down may make it catch debris from the floor, so place it on a clean cloth. Then, remove all the debris that gathers in the opening of the machine. For spots that are harder to clean, use a brush to take all the debris out. After you are done with this part of the washing, just put all the screws back and plug the machine to check if it works. A cleaning tip suggests to run the dishwater empty, with nothing but some food acid in it. If there were parts where you missed cleaning till now, this step will take care of things. Use the light option for this, and, for the substance used for cleaning, here are some ideas: lemonade drink mix, tank, the juice from one lemon, some white vinegar, or a specialized product for dishwashers. In time, dishwashers can catch mold or mildew. To remove these, you will need some bleach substance. If this happens all the time, a good idea would be to let the machine open after usage, so it can dry up. For stainless steel parts of the machine, bleach is not an option, so use a specialized product instead. For the rust stains, a good rust removal substance is recommended. To cover them when they ate too much into the machine surface, use a paint on sealant. If you notice a rust point on the surface, check to see where other spots are, as this can be a problem. The best way to deal with rust is to see what is causing it. Sometimes, rust can be caused by the iron existing in water. With a filter the problem can be solved, as filters keep the iron out. Continue to clean the dishwasher with the controls. A mild cleaner is indicated, applied on a soft cloth. The rinse aid dispenser must be refilled every month. This helps to avoid letting stains get onto your dishes. A water softener does not work with rinse aid, so avoid doing this. The last part of the dishwasher that needs to be cleaned is the flatware basket. Use a brush to remove any debris. If nothing helps, use some liquid dish soap.
