Cleaning Window Shutters And Window Coverings



There are plenty of different shutters on the market which all need cleaning regularly. There are also all kinds of window coverings that also require cleaning. Read on for tips on cleaning window shutters and other window coverings the easiest way.

1. Wood ShuttersYou will need to vacuum your shutters regularly using the brush attachment on your vacuum. Use warm soapy water to wash them every 3 months. Once a year inspect the stain or paint and if needed redo.

2. Vinyl ShuttersClean using the same method as you would with the wood shutters. Once a year you can remove your blinds and give them a bath in a commercial blind bath.

3. Metal ShuttersVacuum your shutters using the brush attachment on your vacuum. Use warm soapy water to wash them regularly.

4. Aluminum Mini BlindsUse a soft dusting clot that is chemically treated to pick up the dust. The new dusting wands you can buy work great. You can also use your vacuum with the brush attachment.

5. Wood Mini BlindsYou should not wash your wood mini blinds instead use a product such as pledge to clean and remove dirt. This will also leave them with a protective coating that helps reduce the amount of dust.

6. Fabric Curtains or DrapeMost curtains are washable and most heavy drapes need to be dry cleaned. Follow the instructions found on the drapes or curtains. In between dont be afraid to use your vacuum with the brush attachment to remove dirt and dust that becomes trapped. You can also use products like Febreeze to remove odors.

Curtains made of cotton or washable fabrics can be washed regularly. Always use cold water and dry according to instructions to avoid shrinkage.

No matter what window coverings you have at least once every six months you should give them a thorough cleaning. Cleaning window shutters and mini blinds and other window coverings doesnt have to be difficult. You can wash them using a mild detergent and warm water.
