Way back in 1804 the Village of Buffalo came to be. Buffalo is a city that’s rich in history and culture from the incredible architecture to the famous art exhibits. It’s an All American City that you need to explore. Come experience what Buffalo has to offer! Buffalo is home to around 300,000 people and it’s the second largest city in New York. It’s earned plenty of nicknames over the years such as the Nickel City, the Queen City, or the City of Good Neighbors. Buffalo is a waterfront city and its roots and economic growth is directly tied to that waterfront. But not only is Buffalo’s economic growth tied to the waterfront so is its recreation and social activities offering residents a superb quality of life and visitors an experience of a lifetime! Whether you’re looking to grab a quick bite to eat or prefer an evening of fine dining Buffalo has some great choices. Here you’ll find Greek, Polish, Irish, Italian and American influences on the menu. Whether you’re dying to try Perogees, Haddock Fish Fries, or Beef on Weck there all here! You’ll also find the original chicken wing here which was actually called the Buffalo wing and dates back to 1964. Or how about trying the unique Buffalo pizza? It’s truly a delight! If you’d like to do a little ethnic shopping then be sure to check out the old ethnic neighborhoods. Whether you are looking for specialized foods or specialized goods and gifts you’re sure to find them! Art plays an important role in Buffalo and there are more than 50 private and public art galleries that call Buffalo home. The Albrigth Knox Art Gallery is well known around the world for its Modern Art collection. Be sure to also visit Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, Burchfield Penney Art Center, as well as many smaller studios and galleries. There’s some awesome displays. The two annual street festivals also bring thousands of visitors to the city to browse and purchase original art works. One thing that surprises many visitors is the architecture. There’s some real treasures here so be sure to take some time to enjoy them! There are several buildings that were designed by the famous American architects Henry Richardson and August Esenwein. Then there is the Guaranty Building one of the first steel support buildings. The State Asylum depicts some excellent Romanesque architecture, and there are several buildings designed by architect Frank Wright which include the Larkin Administration Building, George Barton House, Darwin Martin House, William Heather House, and The Graycliff Estate. That’s just some of the most recognized architecture but there’s plenty more. Be sure to enjoy it! If you’d just like to get out for an evening on the town Buffalo has some great nightlife to offer locals and visitors alike. Here you’ll find last call at 4 am just before the sun comes up so you can party all night and into the wee hours of the morning. Chippewa Street is referred to as the nightlife district which has plenty of trendy coffee shops, energized dance clubs, busy bars, restaurants, and a sex shop. You’ll also find most of Buffalo’s gay bars on Chippewa which are very popular with everyone because of the atmosphere and music. If you’re in town when the Fort Erie Festival arrives be sure to take it in. It’s a 5 day event with top notch musicians from both sides of the Niagara River. It’s party Time! There is also the Buffalo Niagara Guitar Central which hosts the North American Rock Guitar Competition and the Buffalo Niagara Guitar Festival each year. If you are intrigued by science be sure to visit the Buffalo Museum of Science which has a great mix of children’s programs and adult programs. Here you’ll get to interact with science. It’s a great experience! The Buffalo Zoo combined with the Buffalo Zoological Gardens provide an experience second to none! Here you’ll find a diverse representation of species from around the world. Its home to mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish. Here you’ll find recreation, education, culture from the African Watering Hole to the South American Rainforest to the Arctic Edge come explore animals in habitats that represent their natural environment. There’s just so much to see and do in Buffalo. Come find out for yourself how the city earned its well deserved name as the All American City!
