Comparative Essay - What are the Elements of it?

In order to write a very compelling comparative essay you need to have certain elements included in it. This type of project means you will be comparing two different things with each other. The view in which you need to take is going to affect how you display the information as well. For example you may be asked to be unbiased with both sides and only to present the facts. You may be completing a comparative essay in order to promote one of the subjects over the next.

However, you will find that the more balanced your essay is the more intriguing people will find it. They don't want to have to choose sides so they prefer unbiased information. It allows them to form their own opinion on the subject as well. Most people that read comparative essays do so in order to educate themselves on topics. Teachers also read a great deal of them though as this is a type of writing that is taught early in school. That way high school and college students have the skills they need to create a fabulous comparative essay.

In order to get people to be interested in your comparative essay, you need to have a very good introduction. This is where you will talk about what you are comparing and why. You want to start out by identifying some common things between the two subjects. You also want that introduction to discuss what the essay is going to be all about. Once they have read your introduction they will either move on to something else or continue to read it so give them something to be excited about.

It is important to take your time to really research what you will use in any comparative essay. Don't assume that just because the information is online or in a book that it is accurate. You want to stick with facts too rather than just personal opinions. You can use opinions of experts though if they are based on substantial findings and research that they have evaluated.

Make sure you document your resources very well with any comparative essay. That way readers can go take a look at that information on their own as well. When you take information that others have formulated you need to make sure you give them proper credit in your comparative essay as well.

You need to be able to easily summarize the materials at the end of the comparative essay as well. That way you can give the reader a way to recap what all they have read over in the essay. You don't want to leave any loose ends that they will have questions about. Of course you do want your comparative essay to encourage them to find out more about the topic on their own as well.
