Compromising With Synthetic Blend Oils
|
Synthetic and synthetic blend motor oils, although more expensive than conventional, petroleum based oils when compared on the shelf, are well worth the extra cost in the long run. The money saved in increased fuel efficiency between regular servicing alone tends to offset these costs. Synthetic oils last longer and break down slower than conventional oils under the high stresses experienced inside an engine's crankcase. They also leave far less byproducts and deposits on internal parts than their petroleum based counterparts. This is because synthetic oils are chemically engineered by scientists for molecular uniformity and the precise viscosity of it's application. As well, traditional oils are refined from crude oil, and this process creates molecules of different types and sizes as well as various byproducts that slip through during refining. These impurities and imperfections leave behind a sludge of deposits inside a vehicle's crankcase, clogging engine passages and wearing vital, moving parts over time. Synthetic blend motor oil is a mixture of about thirty percent synthetic oil with the rest being the conventional, petroleum based oil. One common myth from the past suggests that synthetic and non-synthetic oils can not be mixed for any application. This is simply untrue. This mixture may not have the complete effect of the fully synthetic oils on the market, but it does an ample amount of good for the protection of a vehicle's engine. These blends still contain a portion of detergents and additives that help keep a motor cleaner and running smoother than if they were not there at all. The synthetic properties in a synthetic blend motor oil still tend to coat engine parts better than conventional oils alone, protecting them from excessive wear over time. They also allow the oil to last longer between regular services where conventional oils may have completely broken down over that time. For those people not in the position to use the fully synthetic oils because of the extra cost, synthetic blend motor oil is a good compromise. It does not cost as much as the fully synthetic oils. For example, business owners with a fleet of trucks that need continuous regular servicing may not be able to afford a fully synthetic oil across their twenty or thirty trucks. Work trucks commonly get used for more difficult or stressful tasks and driven constantly and often harder by employees than they should be. These trucks, with this continuous use, need some added protection for their engines. Some individuals with older vehicles just don't have the money available in their budget for a fully synthetic oil as well. Synthetic blend motor oil can still give them the extra protection, fuel economy, and longevity these engines need to last until economic times have gotten better.
