Computer Freeze: What Can You Do?

Computer freeze is something that most computer owners experience from time to time. If you want to save yourself from always calling for service, then I suggest to try some of the following methods or all of them, when your computer comes to a halt.

The first method: verify your recently installed components or programs

Many times, a computer can go into freezing mode, just because you have just installed a new component or a new program. Remove that piece of hardware or software and see what happens.

The second method: rely on an antivirus

When your computer freezes, it is important to see if a virus is responsible for the crash. Use your antivirus to run a computer scan and analyze the findings. Make sure that your antivirus is updated, or, otherwise, a new virus can crawl up in your machine and you will not even know it. If your antivirus is out of date, try to download updates for it, or try another, more reliable anti-virus.

The third method: get rid of spywares

Spywares often affect your computer without you even knowing it. In order to clean up your machine of all your spywares, search for a reliable spyware removal tool and put it to work.

The fourth method: verify the hard drive for space

When your hard drive is filled up to the rim, your computer will have any reason to stop. Be sure to always let about 20% of the hard drive space free so the machine can work.

The fifth method: verify the temperature

The system that is locked inside your computer case needs a certain temperature to function properly. If, for some reasons, the fans fail to cool down the system, you can get into more serious troubles than just computer freeze. A high temperature can burn your components and you will end up with a non working machine because you did not pay attention to this aspect. Clean the case of dust on the inside, but do not mess with the power case, as it has high voltage.

The sixth method: verify your hard disk

Your computer may freeze because it is something wrong with your hard disk. When its structure is corrupted, you may have to deal with some serious issues. It is best to select the Check disk option from My computer/Tools page and restart the computer and let the scan do its job. Some of the problems may get fixed in the process, but some may not. You will also have to run the Disk Defragmenter to increase the performance of your computer.

The seventh method: verify the memory

Your RAM memory is responsible for many operations in your computer. You can see how much memory is used at any given time by running the Windows Memory Diagnostic. If you notice memory problems, try to take the RAM out of its place and then put it back and try again.

The eighth method: verify your components

Not only your RAM, but other components, as well, can be responsible for the computer freeze. Run some hardware tests to see how your system is doing, before getting on with something else.

The ninth method: update your Windows and your drivers

When your software or your drivers are out of date, they will need an update. Check to see which programs are too old for your machine and bring them to your own time.
